Assigning membership types for students

Choosing a membership type for your students should be pretty simple. There are three options for FFA members (i.e., One Year, Three Year and Four Year) and one option for nonmembers (i.e., Ag Ed Only).

Important

The Three Year and Four Year membership options are for a very narrow subset of students as described below.

The availability of all four options (in the roster system) is dependent on your state’s membership preferences and your chapter’s affiliation status. Multi-year memberships and the Ag Ed Only option are not included as part of the affiliation program. Additionally, states have the ability to turn off the option for multi-year memberships (for non-affiliated chapters).

One Year

The One Year membership provides one year of FFA membership. This option should be used for the majority of student members, to include all members in grades 11 and below. For affiliated chapters, One Year is the only option available.

Three Year

The Three Year membership provides three, consecutive years of prepaid FFA membership and is ONLY for members who graduated high school during the membership year that most recently ended. Availability of this membership type is based on your state’s membership preferences and/or your chapter’s affiliation status.

Three Year Example:

In 2023-2024, a student who graduated high school in 2022-2023 (grad year = 2023) is eligible for a Three Year* membership. However, a 2021-2022 high school grad (grad year = 2022) is not eligible for a Three Year membership in 2023-2024. The 2022 grad is only eligible for a One Year membership.

* Availability depends on the state’s membership preferences and chapter’s affiliation status

Four Year

The Four Year membership provides four, consecutive years of prepaid FFA membership and is ONLY for high school senior students (grade 12). Availability of this membership type is based on your state’s membership preferences and/or your chapter’s affiliation status.

Four Year Example:

In 2023-2024, a student who will graduate high school in 2023-2024 (grad year = 2024) is eligible for a Four Year* membership. However, a 2022-2023 high school grad (grad year = 2023) is not eligible for a Four Year membership in 2023-2024. The 2023 grad is only eligible for a One Year or Three Year* membership.

* Availability depends on the state’s membership preferences and chapter’s affiliation status

Ag Ed Only

The Ag Ed Only option provides access to most resources in FFA.org but is excluded from active FFA membership. Availability of this option is based on your chapter’s affiliation status, as the Ag Ed Only option is not included as part of the affiliation program.
